French Onion Burgers

Ingredients

  • BURGERS
  • 2 lbs ground beef

  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire

  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley

  • salt and pepper

  • ONION TOPPING
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 onions

  • 3 cloves garlic

  • 1 tsp thyme

  • salt and pepper

  • 1/4 cup sherry

  • OTHER
  • loaf french bread

  • 1/4 lbs (113 grams) Gruyere cheese

Directions

  • ONION TOPPING
  • Heat olive oil and butter in a pan over medium-low heat
  • Add the onion and garlic, thyme, and salt and pepper
  • Stir occasionally until the onions are golden browned (at least 20 minutes)
  • Add the sherry and cook a couple minutes longer
  • Remove from heat
  • BURGERS (While onions are cooking)
  • Combine ground beef, Worcestershire parsley, salt and pepper
  • Mix well
  • Form into patties, thinner in the middles so they cook evenly (burgers will thicken when cooked)
  • Grill burgers
  • BREAD (While everything is cooking)
  • Turn oven to broil
  • Cut the bread into slices (similar to hamburger bun thickness).  Cut it on an angle to make the slices larger
  • Place slices on cookie sheet
  • Broil until lightly golden
  • Put half of them aside
  • Top the remaining slices with the Gruyere cheese
  • Return to the oven and broil until melted (about 1 to 2 minutes)
  • ASSEMBLY
  • Place a plain slice of bread on the bottom
  • Top with a burger.
  • Top with caramelized onions.
  • Place the cheesy bread on top.
