Ingredients
- BURGERS
2 lbs ground beef
3 tbsp Worcestershire
1/4 cup fresh parsley
salt and pepper
- ONION TOPPING
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp butter
2 onions
3 cloves garlic
1 tsp thyme
salt and pepper
1/4 cup sherry
- OTHER
loaf french bread
1/4 lbs (113 grams) Gruyere cheese
Directions
- ONION TOPPING
- Heat olive oil and butter in a pan over medium-low heat
- Add the onion and garlic, thyme, and salt and pepper
- Stir occasionally until the onions are golden browned (at least 20 minutes)
- Add the sherry and cook a couple minutes longer
- Remove from heat
- BURGERS (While onions are cooking)
- Combine ground beef, Worcestershire parsley, salt and pepper
- Mix well
- Form into patties, thinner in the middles so they cook evenly (burgers will thicken when cooked)
- Grill burgers
- BREAD (While everything is cooking)
- Turn oven to broil
- Cut the bread into slices (similar to hamburger bun thickness). Cut it on an angle to make the slices larger
- Place slices on cookie sheet
- Broil until lightly golden
- Put half of them aside
- Top the remaining slices with the Gruyere cheese
- Return to the oven and broil until melted (about 1 to 2 minutes)
- ASSEMBLY
- Place a plain slice of bread on the bottom
- Top with a burger.
- Top with caramelized onions.
- Place the cheesy bread on top.
